JourneyID
simplified identity verification, mobile telehealth solution
The Details :
Stealth mode startup with a variety of design needs ahead of public launch (January - September 2020)
Visual design, design/dev QA, rapid prototyping supporting business development team
Working with Journey was a fast paced learning opportunity. Prior experience in startup environments provided a reference point for wearing multiple hats and allowed me to create value across app development, marketing and sales.
early stage needs
Journey provides identity verification solutions for a wide range digital applications. I was initially brought in on a short term basis, which quickly evolved into a full time position as I expanded the scope of my contributions to the small but growing team.
My day to day responsibilities were often variable as I supported a senior designer that was focused mainly on designing and coding the company’s website. I enjoyed the dynamic nature of my projects, which provided me a somewhat unconventional opportunity to refine skills across many disciplines with guidance from a more experienced teammate.
identity verification app
Early on, I was tasked with improving to two demo applications that were critical to telling the company’s story to early investors. I updated flows based on user input and addressed bugs that were discovered in testing.
A sponsored event provided real world feedback of early identity verification functionality. I also learned a bit about creating marketing collateral for the app stores.
Considerations for multiple screen sizes had been overlooked across the board so I managed this aspect of the design process for several instances including the agent dashboard of Journey’s proposed call center offering.
Along with identity verification, I focused on mobile app features for secure calls and seamless transfers supported by our backend technology.
telehealth iteration
After refining the banking and in person event check-in flows, I created a telehealth application leveraging similar patterns for identity verification while adding necessary functionality for appointment setting, video calling and payment.
rapid prototyping
An ongoing element of my role was supporting the business development team with creating mockups for sales demos that mirrored company logos and branding. This often involved same day turnaround and honed my visual design skills for a variety of prospects and clients.
takeaways
My time at Journey provided a valuable contrast to the structured design process that I experienced interning at Flytedesk. The constant shifting of context across projects allowed me to expand my skillset in a relatively short period of time, and ultimately helped me appreciate benefits of a more methodical approach to design, which was absent - often by necessity - in this particular work environment.
